The Ahmedabad Electricity
Company Limited (AEC) was incorporated in 1913
by a British company, Killick Nixon Limited. Today,
the Ahmedabad based Torrent group has a controlling
stake in this public limited company. AEC is a
integrated utility distributing close to 4 billion
units of power to around 1.2 million customers
in the twin cities of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.
AEC has a total generation capacity of 500 MW
comprising four thermal power generating stations
(1 X60, 1X120, 2X110) totalling to 400 MW at Sabarmati
and a gas based power plant of 100 MW at Vatva,
Ahmedabad.
AEC is one of the few private utilities in India
and has been adopting new and innovative methods
for maintaining and improving the quality of power
supplied to its customers. The company’s
Transmission and Distribution losses are 16.68%
for the financial year 2003-04, which are amongst
the lowest in the country. The company’s
customers enjoy a 99.81% reliability of power
supply.
The company has also done pioneering work in
customer services such as the introduction of
hi-tech mobile vans with online connectivity. |
